zentangling

I have discovered an art form that in a sense I've done since very young. I doodled all the time,  drawing on papers, margins on letters, even little trees or whatever on the flap of envelopes before sending them out!
Funny, I never cared much for art when in elementary, but when I become a middle aged adult I grew to want to learn more. so a few drawing classes, and painting classes, i was on my way.

I manage an art gallery co-op here where I live consisiting of about 20 artists from the area.
We had a class taught and I decided to take it. I was so glad i did. It was called Zentangle©
, and is a creative form of doodling!  Do a search on zentangle and you will find LOTS of sites!

The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. "Zentangle" is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc. Learn more at zentangle.com.

I zentangle on anything... cards, lampshades, mugs, and even Tennis shoes. I zentangled some ornaments to sell for Christmas, as well as greeting cards. Right now I am working
on a bunch of bookmarks to give away at a workshop the end of february.

take a look at some of my work:
                                                               a greeting card
                                                               Wood Letter
                                                               gourd that we grew
                                                            how about a sneaker??

One nice side effect, is it has helped me lose 40#'s of weight! I am an evening snacker, and I work on this mostly in the evening..so I zentangle instead of eating!  When My doctor commented on my weight loss, and asked how I was doing it.. he gave me a blank stare, so I got me cell phone and showed him my work.

This fall I had the opportunity to do a zentangle carousel horse on a mural at our local mall that had a circus theme!   that was fun!

So... if you are looking for something to do, that is creative, relaxing, and involves just straight, curved lines and circles... give it a try!!

have a creative day!!
